New York, NY – Not too hard, not too soft…but just right: this is the unanimous verdict of listeners and aficionados everywhere on “Bed,” the smashingly successful single by Washington, DC’s own J. Holiday. With three weeks and counting on top of the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, it’s clear that one of the classic songs of the year is emerging — and that America is determined to stay in “Bed.” The track is Holiday’s first # 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and he is the first artist in a year to top that list with his debut charting song.

On its way to the Billboard summit (first achieved on the September 22 chart), “Bed” made history as only the third track of the decade to win the rare trifecta of Most Increased Plays in the same week on the Rhythmic chart (#1 Most-increased plays, up 934), Urban chart (#1 Most-increased plays, up 582), and Urban AC chart (#1 Most-increased plays, up 298).

With its evocative and downright sexy video (directed by Jonathan Mannion) now added to MTV, and in its eighth week in the BET Top 10 countdown — as well as in rotation on BETJ and BET’s 106 & Park (where it premiered just four weeks ago as “New Joint Of the Day”), Mun2 (where it has been named “One Nation Under Hip-Hop” Artist of the month for October and in high rotation at MTV Hits, MTV Jams and VH1 Soul – the “Bed” could not be made more comfortably in preparation for the October 2nd release of J’s eagerly awaited debut album, BACK OF MY LAC’. Later in the fall, Music Choice will feature J in its “Fresh Crops” program. “It would be cliché to say that the ladies love cool J,” observed Allhiphop.com after a recent show on the Keyshia Cole tour, “but they really do! Showing off his vocal chords on unknown songs off his upcoming album plus a tribute to a classic Jodeci hit – and his latest single ‘Bed’ – made more than a few ladies fall victim to uncontrollable screaming.” J. Holiday will be back on the road for a major year-end tour with superstar R Kelly, introducing the follow-up single to “Bed,” the album track “Suffocate.”

J. Holiday is the featured artist in Yahoo! Music’s “The New Now,” a website segment that highlights emerging artists on the brink of widespread success. The program runs for a month as part of Yahoo! Music’s multi-level “Who’s Next?” initiative for discovering and highlighting new talent.

Also online, J’s MySpace website, www.myspace.com/jholiday is previewing four songs from the album – “Bed,” “Be With Me” (an earlier single, whose video is also up at the site), “Don’t Wanna Lose,” and the title tune, “Back Of My Lac’.” The four songs, averaging over 70,000 plays per day, have accumulated over 4 million total plays at the site, which is filled with everything-you-always-wanted-to-know about J. Holiday. It has become a blogger’s delight with more than 1,100 comments and photos from fans posted to date.

J. Holiday, signed to the Music Line Group/Capitol Records roster, joins prestigious company with his chart milestones. Janet Jackson was the first to log MIP’s on all three charts in the same week with “All For You” in March 2001, followed five months later by her brother Michael’s “You Rock My World.” “Bed” also entered the Urban AC chart at #24, the highest debut by a new act since 1995, when Pure Soul entered at #24 with “We Must Be In Love.” On the Rhythmic Airplay chart, it is again the top Airplay Gainer, moving #12 to #10; and on the Billboard Hot 100, it jumps to #11-bullet (from #15) on a 56% sales spike, and is Airplay Gainer of the week for the second week running.

“Bed” was written by The Dream (credit: Rihanna’s “Umbrella”) and was produced by Los Da Mystro (aka Carlos ‘L.O.S.’ McKinney, whose credits include Faith, Chris Brown, Whitney Houston, Usher). J’s talents as a singer and songwriter and the autobiographic flav of his tunes found sympathetic support from the producers on BACK OF MY LAC’, who include hitmaker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, McKinney, and Music Line’s Ciara and Teairra Mari.
